AFTER SCHOOL KARATE PROGRAM  (Grades one to seven)

The After School Karate classes are not after school care.  They are, as are all of our school’s programs, a single focus program centering on the teaching and learning of the fundamental principals of traditional Japanese karate.  The After School Karate program is a great alternative to after school care that provides your child with so much more for their future.  The After School Karate classes will provide your child with all of the benefits of training in martial arts. Some of those benefits are improved self esteem, improved self confidence, improved focus and concentration, improved self discipline, respect and self defense.  Parents of students in our programs typically comment on the improvement in their child's focus and concentration, self confidence, school grades and overall behaviour within a few short months of starting their karate training.

Children can either be picked up from schools in the Cloverdale area by one of our karate school buses or they can be dropped off at our karate school right after their regular school day.  Once at the karate school, students in the After School Karate class will be given a short time for their snack before changing into their karate uniforms and preparing for their karate class at 3:30pm.  Each day, with the exception of Fridays, the After School Karate class students will get a 45 to 60 minute karate class.  When class is over the students get changed back into their normal clothes and those who’s rides have not yet arrived are encouraged to read, study karate terminology (Japanese karate words) or start on their homework until they are picked up by their rides.  Chess games are also available to help the students learn to develop their strategic thought process and pass the time constructively when they have to wait for their rides.  On Fridays the After School Karate class students have discussions on dojo etiquette (acceptable behaviour in the karate school), the Dojo Rules (code of behaviour for karate students) and karate terminology (Japanese language) followed by a movie.

After School Karate Classes are usually over by 4:30pm but can run into overtime occasionally so parents should plan to pick up accordingly.  Pick up times should be between 4:30 and 5:00pm.  The After School Karate class students also have other karate related educational activities on some days that include; basic Japanese language, karate history, personal safety (self defence), how to deal with bullying.

Students in the After School Karate Class have access to our Karate Development Days or K-D-Days (Pro-D-Day Karate Camps), Kumite Leagues and Summer Karate Skills Camps.   Our K-D Days (Pro D Day Camps) run from 8:00am to 5:00pm.  Our Karate Skills Camps are run as skill development camps (9:00am to 3:00pm) with four and a half hours or more of martial arts instruction and training each day.

SCHOOLS & OUR BUSESAs an added service to our students in the After School Classes our karate school buses presently pick up in from most schools in the Cloverdale area.  Some of the schools that we are currently available to pick up from are Martha Currie, Don Christian, Sunrise, Latimer Road, Hillcrest, Cloverdale Traditional, Diamond, A.J. McLellan, George Greenaway and Cloverdale Catholic Elementary Schools.  Additional schools will be considered.  The buses are limited in seating to a total of thirty-four students and so registration is limited.  To improve safety through consistency in our routes and pick up times only Full Time enrollment (four or five days a week) is accepted in our After School Karate Program.  Our buses are driven by a small select group of drivers that include retired transit drivers, off duty police officers, retired police officers (like myself), wives of police officers or off duty firemen. Talk about safety!

Plans are underway to start a third bus picking up from Clayton Heights as soon as possible.

If you are interested in having your child derive all the benefits from training in traditional karate and you want to fill that time between end of school and dinner with a positive experience then please consider our After School Karate class.  We provide so much more for your child's future.

MINI MIGHTS PROGRAM  (An intro to karate for 4.5 & 5 year olds)

The program is split into three semesters that cover from September to June.  Some children who are not quite five years old but are close may be considered for entry into this program.  The classes are limited to 12 students per class.  An adult Black Belt Instructor (minimum NCCP Level I) will run all classes with the guided assistance of several young adult senior belts.  In addition to basic karate skills, Mini Mights are taught basic skills required for karate such as balance, coordination, self discipline, concentration and some traditional aspects of karate.  Skill development exercises are taught and practiced.  Mini Mights have their own grading system that meets their achievement levels.  All of these skills not only assist them in further karate training but in many other facets of their lives.  When Mini Mights reach the age of six they then move on to the Tiny Tigers Program.  The Tiny Tigers Program accepts students aged six to nine years of age.

  1. Semester 1      Mid Sept. - Mid Dec. (10 Classes minimum) Saturdays, 9:00 - 9:45
