SUMMER KARATE SKILLS CAMPS - 2008
Our Summer Karate Skills Camp weeks are designated to the different age groups. The table below outlines which weeks and times are for which students. These Camps are skill building camps packed with hours and hours of learning and practice. For each Camp there will be three hours of class time each day. That works out to 15 hours of class time in one week! That's the equivalent of over one month of training at an average of three times a week or more than two months at an average of twice a week all packed into one week! What a great way to drive your karate ahead to the next level! Most students who attend a week of Camp and work hard are usually ready for their next belt testing, or very close to it, at the end of the week.
Camps are for our current students and enrolment is limited to 24 students each Camp. Registration forms are available at the dojo front counter. Students may only register for full weeks as the material will build on the previous day's work. For more details on enrolment please pick up a registration package from our front counter, e-mail or call us.
Camps will include skill development in kumite (sparring), kata (patterns), traditional weapons, self defense and matwork. Matwork includes breakfalls (how to fall with minimal impact), basic throws, ground fighting and grappling. Video analysis will be used to help improve techniques and performance.
The Weekend Camp for Adult Class members will start on the Friday night with a class from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, a full Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm and Sunday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
The last Camp of the summer, Camp # 6, is for those students who compete at tournaments or plan to compete at tournaments. It is designed to improve their overall performance at tournament. It is set close to September to enable the students to kick it into gear for the fall tournament season. It still allows them a few weeks to work on what they have learned before the fall tournaments get underway. Many dojos close for the summer so this is an opportunity to gain an edge over the competition. Video analysis will be used extensively to assist the athletes to improve their performance. Karate BC has moved it's tournaments and BC Team selection to a new process for last fall and this fall. Athletes must qualify within their Zone or Region to be eligible to compete at the Provincial Championships. This will be for all divisions.
Camps run from 9:00am to 12:00 noon or 1:00pm to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday as below. The Dojo is closed between 12:00 noon and 1:00pm as well as 4:00pm to 5:00pm Monday to Friday during Camp weeks.
